چکیده

Introduction Glasgow Coma Scale score (GCS) obtained in the hospital has been shown to predict mortality well [1]. However, the performance of GCS in the prehospital setting has not been previously studied. We hypothesized that GCS would be an adequate method for triage and for outcome prediction also when obtained prehospitally. It is crucial to identify lifethreatening emergencies in the very early phase in order to shorten the time for initial assessment and further in-hospital visitation, as the time spent in the Emergency Department (ED) is related to mortality [2].

TRA UMATIC ACUTE SUBDURAL HEMATOMA: ANALYSIS OF FACTORS AFECTING OUTCOME IN COMATOSE PATIENTS

To determine the factors affecting the outcome of patients with traumatic acute subdural hematoma, we reviewed the records of7 4 consecutive comatose patients with a Glascow coma scale Score (GCS) of less than 8 who had been admitted to Imam Hosein Medical Center from 1990 to 1996 and had undergone a uniform treatment protocol. The overall mortality rate was 73% and 23% had functional reco...

Predicting outcome in severe traumatic brain injury using a simple prognostic model.

BACKGROUND Several studies have made it possible to predict outcome in severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) making it beneficial as an aid for clinical decision-making in the emergency setting. However, reliable predictive models are lacking for resource-limited prehospital settings such as those in developing countries like South Africa. OBJECTIVE To develop a simple predictive model for seve...

Prehospital cardiac arrest in Leicestershire: targeting areas for improvement.

OBJECTIVE To identify the impact of advanced life support skills on outcome for prehospital cardiac arrest in a defined population and to assess the value of certain physiological variables in predicting the outcome in those successfully resuscitated in the accident and emergency (A&E) department; to identify areas for improvement in the outcome of such patients. DESIGN Prospective 12 month s...

تعیین عوامل مؤثر بر پیش‌آگهی جراحی در بیماران با خونریزی‌های داخل مغزی خود بخودی

Introduction: Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a common disease. Among cerebrovascular accidents, ICH is the most fatal subtype and many of the survivors may be severely disabled. Comatose patients with these hemorrhages constitute a very special subgroup because of the high mortality rate and more uncertainty about the best surgical indications. Therefore, this study aimed to eval...

Characteristics of Patients with an Abnormal Glasgow Coma Scale Score in the Prehospital Setting

OBJECTIVE This cross-sectional study describes the characteristics of patients with an abnormal Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) in the prehospital setting. METHODS We reviewed existing prehospital care reports (PCRs) in the San Mateo County, California, emergency medical services (EMS) database from January 1 to December 31, 2007. Adults age 18 or greater with a documented GCS fit inclusion criteria...
